Christmas Charades is the classic silent-acting party game dressed up for the holiday season. One player draws a Christmas-themed word or phrase — a movie, a carol, a tradition, a festive food — and acts it out without making a single sound while their teammates race to guess correctly before the timer runs out. No props, no screens, no talking. Just gestures, mime, and a lot of laughing at the person trying to act out "Bûche de Noël."
The game scales beautifully. Two people can play across a kitchen table on Christmas morning. Thirty relatives can split into teams for Christmas Eve. A classroom of kids can run it with the teacher generating words round by round on the board. All you need is a word list and someone willing to look slightly ridiculous — which this generator handles for free in one click.
How to Play Christmas Charades
Click Generate Christmas Words to get your round of holiday prompts.
The actor reads their word silently — other players must not see the screen. Use Hide Words so each card stays blurred until the actor taps it.
Set the Round Timer to 60 seconds for standard rounds, 90 seconds for harder words or songs, and 30 seconds if you want a chaotic speed round.
Start the timer. The actor can gesture, mime, point at body parts, and use facial expressions — but no sounds, no mouthing words, no pointing at objects in the room.
If teammates guess correctly before time runs out, the team scores a point. If not, no point is awarded.
Rotate actors and repeat. Use Save to bookmark a word for a future round without losing it between generates.
Click Reset repeats if you want the generator to recycle words from earlier in the session.
How This Differs from the General Charades Generator
Our Charades Generator covers 12 categories — Animals, Movies, TV Shows, Books, Celebrities, Sports, Food, Places, Actions, Objects, Funny, and a single Christmas category. It's the right tool for any game night, any time of year.
This Christmas Charades Generator is built specifically for December. Every single prompt in the database is holiday-themed. Instead of one Christmas bucket inside a general tool, you get seven dedicated Christmas categories that go far deeper: 22 Christmas movies instead of a handful, 28 Christmas songs instead of a few carols, 24 Christmas traditions including international ones most people haven't heard of. The difficulty tiers are also calibrated differently — Hard here means things like Krampus, Befana, and Wassailing rather than obscure celebrities or niche film references.
Use this generator when Christmas is specifically the theme. Use the general Charades Generator for mixed game nights where one category happens to be Christmas.

Christmas Charades Tips and Best Practices
Mix categories for variety — Leaving it on "All Christmas categories" means a movie might follow a food followed by a carol. The unpredictability keeps guessers sharp and rounds interesting.
Use Kids mode with younger players — Kids mode locks the generator to Easy difficulty. International Santas, obscure films, and hard-to-mime traditions stay out of rotation until players are ready.
Songs need more time — Mime-acting a carol without humming is genuinely hard. Give song rounds 90 seconds rather than 60. Alternatively, play a music-only variant where players can hum but not sing words.
Use standard charades signals — Hold up fingers for the number of words in the phrase. Cup your ear for "sounds like." Tap your nose when someone's close. Touch your wrist to signal urgency. These signals are especially useful for long Christmas phrases like "Twelve Days of Christmas" or "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."
Hide Words before passing the device — Hit Hide Words before handing the phone or laptop to the actor. They tap their card to reveal only their word, keeping all other cards blurred for the guessers.
Save your favorites across rounds — Use the Save (♥) button to bookmark tricky or funny words. They accumulate in the Saved tray so you can build a themed list across multiple generate sessions.
Print for a phone-free game — Click Print Cards for a clean two-column layout. Cut the cards out, place them in a bowl, and draw one per round — no screen involved. Good for dining table games where phones are off-limits.
Hard mode is genuinely hard — Krampus, Befana, and Bûche de Noël will stump most people. Reserve Hard rounds for adults who know their Christmas history, international traditions, and classic holiday films.

Christmas Charades Generator FAQs
How many Christmas charades words are in this generator?
The Christmas Charades Generator has 160+ words and phrases across 7 categories: Christmas Characters, Movies, Songs, Traditions, Foods, Decorations, and Winter. Every prompt is holiday-themed and tagged with a difficulty level so you can match the challenge to your group.
Can kids use the Christmas Charades Generator?
Yes. Set Age Group to Kids and the generator limits words to Easy difficulty — universally recognised Christmas prompts like Santa Claus, Snowman, Candy Cane, Jingle Bells, and Home Alone. Adults and older teens should try Medium or Hard for trickier challenges like international holiday traditions and obscure Christmas films.
What is the difference between this and the general Charades Generator?
The general Charades Generator covers 12 categories for any game night. This Christmas version is purpose-built for the holiday season: every prompt is Christmas-themed, the 7 categories are all festive, and the difficulty tiers are calibrated for December party crowds. If Christmas is the theme, use this one.
What categories are available?
Seven categories: Characters (Santa, Grinch, Elves, Reindeer), Movies (Home Alone, Elf, It's a Wonderful Life), Songs (Jingle Bells, Silent Night, All I Want for Christmas Is You), Traditions (Caroling, Secret Santa, Advent Calendar), Foods (Candy Cane, Eggnog, Figgy Pudding), Decorations (Christmas Tree, Wreath, Snow Globe), and Winter (Snowman, Ice Skating, Blizzard).
How does the difficulty system work?
Easy words are immediately recognisable Christmas classics: Snowman, Candy Cane, Santa Claus, Home Alone. Medium covers well-known holiday films, carols, and traditions: Midnight Mass, Eggnog, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. Hard includes obscure traditions, international Christmas figures, and challenging phrases: Krampus, Befana, Bûche de Noël, Feast of the Seven Fishes.
How many players do you need for Christmas Charades?
Christmas Charades works with as few as two players and scales to any group size. For parties, teams of 3–5 players work best. Larger groups can split into teams and compete for points, with one actor per round rotating through each team.
Can I use this at a school Christmas party?
Yes. Set Age Group to Kids and Difficulty to Easy for a classroom-safe version. Christmas Characters or Winter categories work best for younger students. Generate 5 words per round, use Hide Words so each child reveals their own card, and set the timer to 90 seconds.
Can I print the Christmas charades words?
Yes. Click Print Cards to open the browser print dialog. Controls, ads, and navigation are hidden in print mode so you get a clean two-column card layout. Print, cut out the cards, and place them face-down in a bowl for a fully offline game — no phone at the table.
Who Uses the Christmas Charades Generator?
Families on Christmas Eve
Use the Age Group filter to mix adult and kids prompts across rounds. The timer keeps everyone moving and the category badges make it easy to call themes in advance so relatives of all ages know what kind of word they're acting out.
Holiday party hosts
Generate a list before guests arrive, save the best words, and print cards. No scrambling for paper slips or recycling the same five words. The 7-category system means you can theme rounds — a whole round of Christmas Movies, then a round of Foods — to keep the game moving.
Teachers & classroom parties
Set Age Group to Kids, pick Characters or Winter, and run a quick indoor activity without any prep. The Kids filter keeps all prompts age-appropriate, and the Hide Words feature lets individual students act out their card without the class seeing the word first.
Office Christmas parties
The medium Christmas Songs and Traditions categories are ideal for a mixed adult crowd who may not share pop culture references. Carol of the Bells, Secret Santa, and Christmas pudding are universally recognised across age groups and backgrounds.
